Giving some thought about reccing

I think I'm going to have to become a lot more selective on what stories I recommend because I'm realizing that I spend a lot of time reccing fics that I enjoy and I liked but really probably won't read twice now that I have limited time to read fics. However, if I only rec the stories that I know for sure I'll re-read multiple times regardless of how much time I have or not...then I'll have very few stories to rec.

Not sure if anyone knows this or not but my main criteria for reccing a lot of stories is if I'm able to finish reading it. (as in it kept my interest enough to finish) The instant recs are the stories where I can't stop reading until I reach the end.

anyway, it's early Sunday I still have plenty of time to catch up on the 20 fics I have opened in my Firefox browser.

Don't do that!! I am a pure unadulterated lurker but I must respond to this...... Your journal is the first place I go when I log in to check for new fic. I rely on you totally most days to give me a nudge toward a good read, and I'm similar, I read most things only once, but I love to read new fic. Don't stop reccing!!

noted. :) I'll keep reccing the stories I normally rec...maybe I'll come up with a star system or not...honestly the ones I really LOVE I gush about and there are sometimes paragraphs. so I think people can get the hint when a story is a must read vs enjoyable and worth reading if you have the time.

I think you should keep reccing. If you finished it, that means its worth a look right? There’s lots of fics I’ve read and liked that I’ll never read again. Doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it that one time. ^^

yeah I'm realizing that too....and it just hit me that if people only rec the BEST stories, then all these other good stories won't get read and will be overlooked, and honestly fandom is built mainly one a lot of good stories by many authors. :)

And you're right...if I can't finish reading the story it's bad. If I can finish then there was something there worth reading. :)

Please don't stop, I don't think any fic you have rec'd that I have read I do not thoroughly enjoy.

lol, omg I loved your bribes! :) honestly chocolate and a soda. :) awesome!

This afternoon I realized it only takes about less than a minute to cut and paste stories I enjoy. :) It also hit me that if I only post the best of the best fics....well then the same old stories will get recced and not much else. :)

I did not know this is how you make recs - thanks for sharing. There are a lot of enjoyable fics on your list I might never see otherwise,so I appreciate it.

I missed this, sorry - I seem to miss a lot on lj, of recent.

Your recs are an amazing resource. Your ability to read as fast as you can is also amazing. You've led me to so many fics I'd have missed otherwise, and you've basically been my guide into the spn fandom. You should do what you have time for, and enjoy - but just know there's some people out there, who think you're a marvellously generous person who's efforts are not unappreciated.

Oh, and yes - it was very interesting knowing your rec criteria.

Thanks so much for letting me know what you think. :) and yeah, I feel almost guilty that my criteria isn't any higher for reccing, but honestly once you know that I can't stand to read badfic (okay except for a very FEW occasions) then it's not such a bad criteria. um my idea of bad fic is godawful characterizations, poor grammar (if I can recognize the poor grammar the story is beyond hope), and no coherent plot whatsoever.
