I tried using Adobe Digital Editions, and I wanted to throw it out the window. ePub also looked craptastic in Calibre, but both programs are kind of sucky, so it's hard to say how I feel about ePub, really. You're making the files, though, which is a whole different story.... Sorry for your difficulties. I'm sure the format will become better over time.
