amalthia: (Stargate Atlantis)

Just realized this post goes all over the place and isn't very coherent.

Okay, first I'm going to try and watch season 4 with an open mind. I'll be honest I'm not a big Carson fan, I liked him like I liked Janet but maybe less because he hasn't had that much character development. Weir I liked from the beginning and it'll be weird watching Atlantis with her not there...but I always considered her the Hammond character. (though seriously, I completely and utterly loved Hammond to the point where I can't like Landry because I keep comparing him to Hammond.) So that's two big changes, the third finding out that Carter is going to be in 14 episodes...

Big cast changes make me nervous.

1) They are replacing Carson, a guy that does have a lot of fans, for a unknown woman doctor, yet they have yet to write any decent character development stories for either Teyla or Weir...why bother upsetting your fan base with an unnecessary change?

2) Not sure what's going to happen with Weir...but they say she's going to be a re-occurring character which means either she dies or she runs off like Ford, never to be seen again. Either way she's out of the picture.

Based on the big shocking development that's supposed to happen at the end of season 3, I get the feeling that the Ori might win the war in the Milky Way Galaxy, Atlantis is cut off again, Carter somehow manages to get on a ship and head for Atlantis (possibly a very damaged ship) and during this time I think Weir either gets killed or kidnapped by the Asurans, or she goes to earth and is cut off from Atlantis.

Which technically makes for an interesting situation if I'm right.

Now what worries me is we still know NOTHING about Sheppard, Teyla, and Ronon and now they are adding a woman doctor and a new commander for Atlantis who may or may not be Carter (whose had 10 years of character development). If they were adding men I might be less concerned but I get the feeling that Jewel Staite will be completely wasted as an actress in SGA.

Hell I have people telling me that Ben Browder can't act based on what they've seen in SG-1 (and okay it's a fair assessment they've done nothing interesting with him in SG-1) and yet he was awesome and good in Farscape. (I just don't think the writers know what to do with women characters and they don't know what to do with the new characters)

I'm also concerned that they are bringing writers from SG-1 over to SGA. Well Irresponsible was the WORST episode I've seen in SGA, mainly it wins because they killed Kolya in such a godawful bad way. It just sucked all over. So if that's a sample of what we can expect in season 4...it's not looking so great.

so far season 3 has been pretty good, it's like everything is finally falling into place and now they are making all these changes and it makes me nervous, and it's been bugging me since yesterday when I found out about these cast changes.

I guess I keep having flashbacks to Sliders.

Basically, normally I try to stay optimistic and wait and see how things play out, but I can't get over my fears that the writers will turn Rodney into a buffoon when Carter is around, or that Zelenka will disappear, and Ronon and Teyla will never get any character development.

I know a lot of people at Gateworld are saying this is going to ruin the show and they won't watch but I'm not like that. I'll give the show a chance and see how it goes. If my husband starts saying Smallville is better then I'll know it's time to give up on SGA. (no offense to anyone that loves Smallville, I watch for the pretty guys and Lois and Chloe)
